There are plenty of times when knowing how to change colors in crochet is useful. To change colors in a project using a half double crochet (hdc) stitch, follow these steps.
1. Complete one less stitch than the required number of stitches in Color A.
2. Work the last stitch in Color A as normal but stop before the last Yarn Over (YO) and pull thru. There should be 3 loops in Color A on your hook.
3. YO in Color B, holding the tail on the back side of the work, and pull Color B thru all 3 loops of Color A. This completes the last required stitch in Color A.
4. The next stitch will be the first stitch done in Color B.
